Welcome News From the Court of Appeals

Starting July 1, 2023, court-appointed counsel fees in the Court of Appeals of Virginia will rise significantly. Attorney's representing appointed clients in misdemeanor appeals will receive $1300 for fully briefed cases in which oral argument is waived or dispensed with and $1500 for cases argued before a panel. Felony appeals will receive $1800 and $2000. These new fees more than double the fees that were paid from 1985, when the Court was established, through June 30 of this year.
